Airlift, Fan, Dangal, Sultan – 5 upcoming filmsthat prove Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar are making some BRAVE choices!

Let’s give these superstars some break, please!

This week, we were treated to one of the best trailers I have seen in recent times – Akshay Kumar’s Airlift. It came as a huge surprise to me, since the actor’s last film wasSingh is Bliing!

I had known that the plot of the film was quite different, a rarity when it comes to Bollywood, who adamantly refuses to be done away with superheroes and dance-and-song stuff, just because the audience demands it! But I never expected airlift be shot on such large canvas, giving it a truly international feel on the lines of Argo and Zero Dark Thirty (albeit with a hint of jingoism…
come on, you just can’t take off Bollywood-ism completely!). So kudos to Akshay Kumar for green lighting this project and starting of 2016 with a bang.

Coming to 2016, it’s not just Akshay Kumar who is trying to change the tide. Even other superstars like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, who are often accused of not experimenting much with their roles and preferring to stick to audiences pleasing tactics, have some amazing off-the-road films releasing next year. In fact, 2016 is an exciting year for true Bollywood aficionado, as he/she will get to watch some truly different stuff from his favourite star. Let’s look at five exciting films to look forward to next year, that will feature our favourite Khans, Kumar and Roshan!

1) Airlift
What’s it about:  Based on a real life incident, set during the 1990 Kuwait-Iraq war, when one influential Indian decided to rescue thousands of helpless Indians trapped in Kuwait and return them to India .
Why is it a bold choice:  Akshay Kumar is known for his slapstick comedies like house full franchise andSingh is Bliing, or masala entertainers like Gabbar is Back.
But he sometimes to digress to intelligent stuff like special 26andBaby, so airlifted not entirely unexpected. However, the large canvas of the film surprises us, and the teaser has impressed us beyond expectations! So much that we can even forgive house full 3that is also releasing next year…

2)FAN
What’s it about:  It’s about a Gaurav, a die-hard fan of superstar Aryan Khanna, who apes his idol’s mannerisms and style of conduct. Things take for a turn, when he decides to meet the man who has inspired his life till now.
Why is it a bold choice:  Though many have called this film as fan worship, the teaser of the film has shown that this is not just the case. The film instead of fans worshipping actually has the temerity to pick up one of those countless fans who hound these stars’ houses and make them three dimensional. Plus, Shah Rukh Khan’s Gaurav look is quite amazing! Above all,Fanis followed byRaees, where also SRK is seen in a completely different avatar. So yay!

3)Mohenjo Daron

What’s it about: Though not much details are revealedabout the plot, what we know is that it is a romantic adventure story, that’s set millions of years ago in Mohenjo Daro, one of the oldest cities in the world.

Why is it a bold choice:   Have we ever seen a film made in India, based in prehistoric times? Plus, we willalso get to see Hrithik Roshan in a almost bare-bodied avatar, wrestling with a giant crocodile! So girls, it’s time to drool a bit more!

4) Sultan

What’s it about: Like Mohenjo Daro, nothing much have been revealed about this sports drama, except that Salman Khan plays a wrestler, and there will be two heroines in the film.

Actress Why is it a bold choice: Though we don’t know much about the plot, it’s Salman Khan’s look that has intrigued us. After, all when has theBajrangi Bhaijaanchanged his appearance for a film? That itself merit a brownie point for this Salman flick. Also YRF, who is producing the film, has given a brilliant sports flick inChak De India, so that keeps our hopes high! (By the way, let’s forget that YRF’s other sports film,Dil Bole Hadippa! ever happened!)

5) Dangal
What’s it about: It’s based on a real-life wrestler, Mahavir Singh Phogat, who taught wrestling to his daughters Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat, and madethem national level champions!

Why is it a bold choice: For the first time, Aamir Khan plays a father of two grown up girls, and is acting his age. Plus, biopics are becoming a rage at the box office with the success ofMary KomandBhaag Milkha Bhaag. There is actually nothing mainstream about the film, right from Aamir Khan’s look to his leading lady (Sakshi Tanwar) to even the plot! And it’s a huge risk for the man, whose last couple of films wereDhoom 3 and PK.

So which of these films are you really eager to watch?
